  1. How come SimScenery X displayed "An error has occurred." message during setup?

The two most common reasons for this error to occur are:

    (i) You have installed a fresh copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator X on your system without running it at least once. You need to run it once (which creates the necessary configuration files during its first run) before installing any SimScenery X products. The correct procedure to install SimScenery X products is as follows:

    1. Install a fresh copy of FSX.
    2. Install FSX Service Pack 1. (This step is optional and may be installed later)
    3. Install FSX Service Pack 2 or FSX Acceleration Expansion Pack. (This step is optional and may be installed later)
    4. Run FSX once by launching a flight.
    5. Close FSX.
    6. Install SimScenery X products.

(ii) You have a modified, non-standard, or corrupt installation of Microsoft Flight Simulator X on your system. You may need to reinstall Microsoft Flight Simulator X before installing any SimScenery X products.

  2. How come there are large patches of scenery textures missing in the distance?

    or

  3. How come road traffic doesn't correlate well with the underlying scenery textures?

You need to install FSX Service Pack 1, which fixes these and many other visual abnormalities.

Installing FSX Service Pack 2 or FSX Acceleration Expansion Pack is also recommended.

You can download both FSX Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2 from FSInsider.com.

  4. How can I sharpen the appearance of scenery textures in the distance?

Under FSX display settings, adjust the following features:

    Feature Setting Result
Filtering Anisotropic Improve appearance of all textures
Level of detail radius Large Improve details of textures in the distance.
Texture resolution 1 m Exact match of SimScenery X texture resolution
Land detail textures Uncheck Remove artificial noise on scenery textures

Note that the settings above are for reference only, you may need to lower the settings to improve performance on your system.

  5. How come flags are not waving?

Under FSX display settings, check the "Advanced animations" feature.

  6. How come some ships and ferries are missing?

Under FSX display settings, set the "Ships and ferries (%)" feature to "100%".

  7. How come buildings and vegetations are missing?

Under FSX display settings, adjust the "Scenery complexity" and "Autogen Density" features.

  8. How come SimScenery X contents are entirely missing?

This may happen if FSX is installed for everyone on your system. Since FSX shares a common scenery configuration file for everyone, if a user disabled or deleted a SimScenery X product entry in Scenery Library, then the changes made will affect everyone on your system.

From the FSX menu, select "World", then select "Scenery Library...", try to locate the SimScenery X product entry:

If you can locate the entry, then tick the box next to it to enable it.

If you cannot locate the entry, uninstall the SimScenery X product and reinstall it.
